A typical problem of ordinary steel bars is the formation of rust. If you keep your regular bar in good condition, i.e. brush and treat it regularly, you can extend its life and keep it looking great. If you do not take care of your barbell, the bar may begin to corrode. High quality barbells have thin layer of chromium or zinc on the steel surface. This protects the bar from corrosion, but unfortunately reduces the natural feeling of steel knurling which can lead to reduced grip strength, and that's something nobody wants.

Ordinary bars are bent. When the Olympic bars are manufactured the manufacturer buys material from the steelworks. This steel usually already has some irregularities from the straightness. In the steelworks, steel is considered to be straight at an irregularity of less than 2.3 mm to 201 cm (on the bar length). With those irregularities bars are difficult to hold and tend to turn. The more weight you put on them the greater the tendency is. On the bent bar the bearings are often curved, and the risk of wrist injury is increased. Only a perfectly straight bar can remain straight for years. This is the reason why we first straighten up the steel.

Bar Testing

• We test EVERY single bar by X-rays to detect bar's defects which can occur while manufacturing. Straightening of bars, heat process and surface treatment can cause gentle defects. These bars can bend after a while. On average, one in ten bars is damaged this way. Luckily, thanks to this testing, we can reveal it and we eliminate such defects.
• We choose randomly a few pieces of steel from every product line which we test. The steel is bent with at least 550 kg of force for one hour. Then we measure if the bar bent with the accuracy of millimeters. You can see the process in the video bellow.
